I wrote this one today on my way home from work and thought I’d just post it. Originally “Untitled poem #8”, I ended up picking the opener “I like to write code” as the title. Hope you will enjoy it:
I like to write code, code that screams aloud
Over and over, push these commits to the cloud
It never quite matters what starts the errand
Tutorial, assignment, someone thinking grand
Pride prints all over my words, my work, my day
Through that lens where life can never be gray
Sometimes, hardly, I get the lean keystrokes to stop
Only so my mind, my spirit, my body avoid the pop
Pop burning so many, so bright, right to the grounds
Ravaged like Australian trees by these hellfire hounds
I saved myself with a bit of silence, of peace, at last
The laptop is closed, the day’s challenges are now past
It takes more than a machine to practice our craft
Any pretending otherwise dances dangerously with daft
Beholder beware, gatekeeping is not what I throw upon thee
Whoever joins that path without care pays a hefty fee
I like to write code, code that screams aloud
Over and over, push these commits to the cloud
Thanks for reading all the way and if you want more content, you can check out the other poems I published over here. For more visual content, hop over to my podcast which is available both in audio and video. Peace.
